August 23, 2018

Tourism development in the East has been a popular topic for discussion during the past few years.

Though there is tremendous potential for development, whether due emphasis was given to the subject is doubtful. It is true that there has been a significant increase of hotel rooms in the area but important infrastructure and human resource development is yet to take place.

The Chamber of Tourism and Industry has been pursuing this matter for quite some time and after a careful study of the requirements have prepared a 30 point programme to be implemented in order to promote development of Tourism in the area.

Following the government’s initiative to develop tourism in the Eastern Province President Chamber of Tourism and Industry A.M.Jaufer recently presented the programme to relevant government authorities from the Provincial Council level to National level.

Among them were the Prime Minister, Minister & Deputy Minister of Tourism, The Governor of Eastern Province, The Chairman Tourism Development Authority and the Chairman, Tourism Task Force.

Mr. Jaufer says that during the discussions he had with the Government Authorities several positive sentiments was expressed by the Prime Minister and the Minister in Charge of tourism in implementing the proposals.
